Worst Honeymoon Destinations
Just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the best and the worst honeymoon destinations are a matter of taste. For some, a honeymoon in Egypt would be the dream of a lifetime, while for others, the same trip would be their last choice. Nevertheless, there are some places that nearly all honeymooners should avoid.
The Honeymoon Visit
Probably first on the list of the worst honeymoon destinations is the honeymoon that consists of a visit to family (or even close friends.) Even if your family lives in the most exotic place on the earth, a honeymoon that is in the same house or apartment with other people has the potential to turn into a nightmare. Lack of privacy for a just-married couple can become a very sore point within a matter of just a day. Sharing bathrooms, kitchens, and living space as well as compromising on daily activities invariably drives a wedge between hosts and visitors. Frustration and impatience soon turn into arguments and bad feelings. But then you are stuck with no place to go. If you want to visit your family on your honeymoon, ask them to find you a hotel room in which to stay. If your family is paying for your flight to visit them, then consider paying for the hotel yourself. But, whatever you do, find your own living space.
The Too-Expensive Honeymoon
You have saved your pennies to get to New York, but once there, you do not have enough money to do anything but walk up and down the beautiful streets looking for the cheapest food to eat and a place to sit. Your hotel turned out to be in a dangerous part of town and you are afraid to sleep on the mattress for fear of what lurks beneath. Since you have already committed your funds to this trip and the flight, you are stuck.
To avoid this trap, make certain that your honeymoon plans are not over your head financially and that you have room on your credit cards to put your escape plan into action. Good planning is the key to avoiding this nightmare honeymoon.
The One-Sided Honeymoon
John wanted to spend their honeymoon in Las Vegas gambling. Joanne wanted to spend their honeymoon in Washington, DC, visiting all of the national museums and monuments. They went to Las Vegas because John was paying for the honeymoon, and he promised Joanne day trips to Mount Charleston and Hoover Dam. Joanne hated spending time in the casinos and John hated her grumbling. Soon, they were arguing over everything and they both wound up hating Las Vegas. The worst destination is the one that pleases only half of the newlywed couple.
The Bad-Weather Destination
Planning an outdoor honeymoon depends upon the right kind of weather. A snow-less ski honeymoon or a rained out golf honeymoon or a hurricane beach honeymoon are memorable ones, but not for the right reasons. There are no guarantees, and even the best planning can fall victim to the vagaries of Mother Nature. Still, matching your “dream wedding” trip to the very best locale at its most promising season for its best weather is the only way to increase your odds for the perfect honeymoon.
