Honeymoon Cruises

A Magical Experience
Few experiences are as romantic and magical as a honeymoon cruise, especially when everything goes just right. The newest cruise ships have every conceivable entertainment and amenity you can imagine to fit just about any budget. The various lines offer a wide array of destinations from the East and West Coasts to such popular destinations as the Bahamas, the Caribbean islands, Mexico, Alaska and Hawaii. Then, there are the more exotic destinations to Europe, the Mediterranean Sea, and the South Sea islands.

One of the great benefits of a honeymoon cruise is the fact that once you board the ship, the only thing you should have to worry about is gaining weight from all of the wonderful food. Everything else is taken care of for you. For a couple planning a wedding, there are so many details to take care of; having everything taken care of in a beautiful setting with romantic and exotic ports to visit is a great blessing.

Planning a Honeymoon Onboard
To find out about the various cruise packages, you can go online or you can consult a travel agent. Remember that the wedding itself can be held on a cruise ship, so that your wedding becomes a three or four-day holiday for your family and friends. Most of the major cruises are ready and eager to work with you to plan an event.

Things That Can Go Wrong
Of course, this dream trip can turn into a bad trip if you get sick when you are out at sea. Recently, a number of health issues on cruise ships have occurred, including episodes of food poisoning and contagious outbreaks that spread throughout the ship.

Most ships have a doctor and nurses on-board, but a cruise ship is not equipped to be a floating hospital or pharmacy. So, to be safe you need to be prepared to bring all of your medications and over-the-counter items you might need for minor medical problems and get all of your inoculations. Also, it’s good to remember that a lot of people are in close contact for a long time, and infections can spread quickly. So, it’s a really good idea to use common sense and good personal hygiene strategies.

Mechanical breakdowns at sea or at port can leave you in an un-airconditioned, unlit, and unventilated room. Of course, on your honeymoon, you may not really care that you cannot leave your room. But, you may have been looking forward to that stop in Antigua that you missed because the engine failed. Last year, a Mexican cruise spent the four days circling thirty-five miles from the shore because of mechanical problems.

The weather is a big factor for a happy cruise. Bad storms can occur anytime of the year, and hurricanes are a real consideration for a honeymoon cruise from June through October. For that reason, it is a good idea to take out travel insurance just to make certain that your honeymoon trip is protected.
